Vintage Army Green Tractor Seat in Plexiglass Frame

Part of the Open Range Collection at The Arrangement is the repurposing of artifacts that are beautiful fragments from the past–in a new elevated way. The Open Range Collection is the updating of ranch furniture style. HOH is hair on hide and sometimes call cowhide, and it is used as the base of the vintage tractor seat display that mimics the museum approach to artifacts by showing them in a plexiglass box.

This is a real-deal authentic tractor seat. The early use of the green color is breathtakingly vintage and is spectacularly worn off.

The historic western heritage of using the ergonomic butt “cupping” cast iron tractor seats with pierced openings which allowed the air to circulate on good days and water drain out on the rainy days. The life of farming the land was tough, as were the people. But to work the land on the metal tractor seat, aka the farm implement seat, was probably excruciating.

As beautiful as they are today, the lesson from our forefathers is “do the work” no matter the challenge. And challenges there were. The iron tractor seat was a step up from horse and plow, and adapt they did.

Today’s tractors are air conditioned, have sound systems and all kinds of amenities! What in the world would our ancestors think of that?

The history of the tractor seat from the early days to now is summed up in one phrase: “CEO’s were different back in the day. They did the work of the land.” Take a lesson from our forefathers and collect the work ethic of the land heritage.
