Framed African Textile with Black Frame
Vintage Kuba Textile from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly Zaire, are uniquely different for the complexity of design. this variation is rectangular and exemplifies the artistic geometric variation.
Just like music, hot jazz in particular, the fabric has a “off-phrasing” of accents and the staggering and suspending the pattern. There are no “repeats” in this style of textile art. The men are typically responsible for the raffia palm cultivation and the weaving of the raffia cloth. Women then take the cloth and apply the surface decoration. Modern Rustic at home in a totally contemporary or mountain decor. At this point it’s impossible to accurately date the cloths. This one can be hung vertically or horizontally.
