Melrose Conversation Soda

If you have ever tried to have a conversation with three people on one sofa, this is the way to do it. The con-ver-sation sofa. Three people can sit on it and, just like Goldilocks, no one is too close or too far away. Architects and interior designers are now using gently curved sofas to create a welcoming and cozy feel to any room.

The fabric is combined with leather on the arms and front rail to create a neutral separation between the pale pattern of the seat cushions and any rug pattern, preventing any visual busy-ness. It is a statement in neutrals and entertainment: one look from the side and back, another from the front. The use of leather on the arm and front rail was chosen to prevent wear and tear on the high usage areas, extending the life of the sofa by many years. The exceptional craftsmanship of the 8-way hand-tied springs are the best in the business.

The use of “nail heads” up the outside of the arm panel creates a design line of separation. Nail heads have been used in furniture making since the 1800s as a structural element that held the fabric to the frame and would hide the joining of the various edges to the frame. It is not a western or southwestern detail but a classic, historical, functional element used by the finest furniture makers that takes a very high skill level to apply.

Firm but comfortable cushions make this a great reading, tv viewing or a sit-and-enjoy-a-drink-with-friends sofa.
