Spectacular weather was number one on the menu for the Houston Cattle Baron’s Ball 25th Anniversary. Carol and Beth McGarry co-chaired this spectacular event benefiting The American Cancer Fund.
This was my first year as a volunteer and I got to host a meeting of 80+ people, address envelopes, write notes on the invites (yes, someone really writes them out), set up dozens of tables and hundreds of chairs, wipe down 2,000 chairs with my team, and work the VIP party as a “banker”. Me, a banker!
Back to the subject–The event begins with a processional entry with flag bearers atop beautiful horses at the long entryway to George Ranch. The indoor horse arena was sparkling with white lights and 3-foot high candelabra table settings. There were silent auction displays, the call to the pig races, casino tables, arcade games and food, food, food. I especially loved the pig races and their hi-larious piggy names! Weeeeeee weeeeeee, pure adrenaline!
It’s a very fun evening full of activities to keep you busy. Trucks and cars are up for raffle, folks are gambling, a live auction is being called out, the mini live auction is concurrently happening, and top it all off with an intimate, up front and personal performance by Lyle Lovett. It was so much fun crammed into a few hours!
