Hang your art collection in a stylish way with our step-by-step tutorial.
1ST: GATHER YOUR ART
–ARRANGE BY COLOR: For beginners, select wall art that features colors in a certain palette. This will ensure the grouping feels cohesive and well thought out.
–ARRANGE BY FRAME: Frame everything in the same style of frame. Whether it’s ornate, antique black or simple, modern white, this common characteristic will bring everything together.
–ARRANGE BY SIZE: Balance your gallery wall with art of all sizes. To be sure you have a good mix, pick two or three larger pieces and fill in the rest with smaller pieces.
2ND: PICK A LAYOUT
–DO: Place each frame face down on newspaper and trace its edges. Next, cut out each tracing and use painter’s tape to adhere them individually to the wall. This will allow the freedom to rearrange your gallery without putting holes in the wall each time you want to shift the look around.
–DO: Start with the biggest pieces and work your way through to the smaller ones.
–DO: Try to leave at least 2 inches of space in between each art piece.
–DO: Arrange the gallery wall around the furniture. As you work, take pictures of each arrangement to help determine which one looks best.
–DON’T: Place any piece of art in the exact center of the grouping. This will make everything too matchy-matchy.
3RD: GET IT ON THE WALL
Once you have your wall design laid out, start placing nails into the wall right on top of the newspaper. Leave your newspaper tracings up until you are ready to replace them with the actual frames.
And there you have it! A beautiful gallery wall to display all your favorite artwork for your guests to marvel at.
