A single ten foot timber, left intact. It could have been cut. It was not. Snedeker’s decision was immediate. Design would move around it, not through it.

The surface carries what time has given it. Seasoned. Marked. Fully resolved.
Authored authority. Character held, not corrected.

Nine drawers sit beneath, measured and exact, allowing the timber to remain the focal point. Structure surrounds it with discipline, never competing.

There is a way of working in the field, responding to what is there rather than imposing upon it. Like painting in open air, where the light directs the hand.

Katherine reads the timber where it stands, then brings it forward as functional art.
