Rules You Can Break When Decorating #3

Decorating & Interior Design

16 Apr

There is no rule book when it comes to decorating. As if decorating a new home wasn’t tricky enough, trying to keep up with all of the design rules makes the task even tougher! But times are a’changing — and if you can wear white after Labor Day, then break out of your comfort zone and throw away the guidelines that have become design law. Start embracing your “rebellious” side by breaking these rules…

Perk Up the Bedroom

Convention says the bedroom should be decorated in muted colors and soothing patterns to encourage sleep and relaxation. But if you are more excited about bolder colors and patterns, then we say go for it! It’s a room you want to be surrounded by what you love. The warm lighting from a decorative lamp tones down bright colors at night, but you will be energized in the morning from the brighter colors. You can also use busy patterns for a morning pick-me-up, they will just need to be balanced by only using it in certain areas, such as artwork only on one wall, or fun pattersn on window coverings.
