Your Home Office Lighting Needs

Decorating & Interior Design

Lighting is an essential element to the home office. If you have a home office and feel that there are days you are sleepy and unproductive, check your lighting. Learn the type of lighting your home office needs and how to set it up to be more efficient and healthy.

NATURAL LIGHTING

Let natural light in! Natural light is healthy for you, easier than installing new lights, and more beneficial to your eyes. It can affect the work flow by improving your mood and making you more productive. Your work space should not face the natural light directly, nor should it come in from behind you, making it difficult to face the computer screen. It’s also important to let natural light in during winter, especially if you do not go out during this season.

GENERAL LIGHTING

Light mounted on the ceiling is the second brightest lighting option in your home office. This should be placed in the center of the ceiling. You can also add track lighting along the walls or ceiling. Avoid using light bulbs that are too dim or bright because these will hurt your eyes.

TASK LIGHTING

Use this type of lighting if you need to read from documents and other sources other than your computer and when working in low light locations. Place an adjustable desk lamp to have direct light where you need it.

ACCENT LIGHTING

This type of lighting adds to your home office décor and ambiance. You can mount lamps on your walls, or use table and floor lamps for a lighting solution. However, do not depend on this type of lighting to prevent from straining your eyes. Make sure the lamp lights directly over your desk, and keep away from using it as task lighting. If your home office will allow, place the lamp beside a club chair that you can use for reading.

Modifying the lighting in your home office has plenty of benefits and will give your office a friendlier ambiance, encouraging efficiency and profits. Combined with practical and multi-purpose office furniture, your home office will definitely go places.
